3.14 Pi(e) Day VI

This is actually my 7th annual Pie Day, but last year we did it as a Cookbook Club event. Can you believe it!? Seven times I’ve gotten to stuff myself to the gills with pie… and hopefully many more to come.

Savory Pies

Nick made a Tomato Cheese Pie. Does that sound familiar? Well that’s because he makes one every year, since I don’t allow pizza to qualify as pie. At least this year his pie didn’t look like a pizza 😉

Sheila made a Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pie. I am borderline about whether or not shepherd’s pie qualifies as pie, but every year somebody seems to want to make one so I guess I’m being worn down. I’ll admit it was tasty 🙂

Kris made a Bacon and Onion Pie. Super props to Kris, who had a last-minute work emergency and wasn’t able to come to Pie Day, but sent his pie with Sheila for us to eat anyway! I laud his Pie Day spirit… and I think his pie might have been my favorite of the day.

Sweet Pies

Kamy made an Apple Pie. Also sound familiar? She makes an apple pie every year, which of course I gave her a hard time about as well. But her excuse is she’s trying to perfect her apple pie… and I will say that this year’s was the best one she’s made so far.

John made a Pumpkin Pie. He had a crazy thing happen where the filling bubbled over the edge of his crust so he ended up with a thin layer of filling on the outside of the crust. But it turned out to be fine, so… new pie invention?

Heather made a Chocolate Caramel Pie. The caramel was a bit dense, which made it hard to cut. But still yummy – this pie tasted like eating a giant Twix bar, only elevated because she topped it with orange blossom-infused cream.

I made a Passion Fruit Pie with Mascarpone Cream. It had an experimental saltine crust, which worked out really well. And I had fun decorating with the mascarpone cream, though I ended up adding more cream while eating because it was delicious.
